RINL Observes Smruthi Divas, Emphasises Workplace Safety

Visakhapatnam:The Steel Executives’ Association (SEA) of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, in association with Lions Blood Bank, JCI Ukkunagaram Chapter and Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital, organised a voluntary blood donation camp and tree plantation programme at SEA Bhavan in Ukkunagaram Township on Friday to mark Smruthi Divas for the 14th consecutive year.
The programme paid tribute to the 19 employees and contract workers who lost their lives in the Steel Melting Shop-II accident in 2012 and the nine workers who died in the recent RINL incident on June 8. Participants observed a minute’s silence and offered floral tributes.
RINL chairman and managing director M.N.V.S. Prabhakar planted a sapling as a mark of remembrance and stressed the importance of strict adherence to safety protocols. He called upon employees and stakeholders to strengthen workplace safety practices and foster a culture of safety across the organisation.
Prabhakar also appreciated SEA for organising the annual blood donation drive in memory of the deceased workers.
Lions Blood Bank presented a shield to SEA in recognition of its contribution to voluntary blood donation. Senior officials, union leaders and representatives of partner organisations participated in the programme, during which 75 units of blood were donated and saplings were planted.
As part of the observance, SEA also sponsored lunch for inmates of two orphanages in Visakhapatnam.
