Nellore: Energy minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar on Sunday said renewable energy was the only long-term solution to the country’s energy challenges and called for wider adoption of solar power under the PM Surya Ghar scheme.

During his tour of Addanki constituency in Prakasam district, the minister launched the PM Surya Ghar programme at Bandivaripalem and inaugurated a BT road built at a cost of Rs 3 crore from Bandivaripalem to KG Road.
He said global conflicts often resulted in shortages and price rises in petrol, diesel and cooking gas, stressing the need for efficient utilisation of solar energy generated during daytime.
Gottipati said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was implementing the PM Surya Ghar scheme across the country with one crore connections, while Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had secured 20 lakh solar connections for Andhra Pradesh.
He said six lakh connections would be allocated to SCs and STs, with free solar plants up to 2 KW for SC beneficiaries. Subsidies of ₹98,000 for BCs and ₹78,000 for OC beneficiaries for 3 KW plants would also be provided.
The minister urged people to plant more trees to combat rising temperatures and inaugurated a village health clinic built at a cost of ₹18 lakh at Minnekallu village. He said 48 such clinics would soon be opened.
Later, at Chavitipalem, he inaugurated Pragathi Bhavan constructed with the support of Jana Chaitanya Housing Cooperative Society.
Gottipati said the coalition government had restored pensions to widows and single women who were earlier denied benefits and assured that new pensions and houses for eligible beneficiaries would be sanctioned after reviewing the state’s financial position.
