Reactor Explosion Triggers Fire at Pharma Company; Two Workers Injured
Eyewitnesses reported a sudden explosion followed by intense flames and thick smoke, forcing workers in nearby units to flee. Emergency services were alerted immediately, and fire tenders from Tirupati and Renigunta were rushed to the scene.
Tirupati: A fire broke out at the Chromo Medicare unit in the Gajulamandyam industrial estate near Renigunta on Monday afternoon, leaving two workers injured. The blaze, suspected to have been caused by a reactor explosion, erupted around 1.30 pm and quickly engulfed a significant part of the facility.
Eyewitnesses reported a sudden explosion followed by intense flames and thick smoke, forcing workers in nearby units to flee. Emergency services were alerted immediately, and fire tenders from Tirupati and Renigunta were rushed to the scene.
Firefighters battled the flames for several hours and successfully brought the situation under control. At the time of the incident, around ten employees were on duty, but most had stepped out for lunch. Only two workers, D. Ravindra of Telangana and G. Venkatesh of Gajulamandyam, were inside the unit when the blast occurred. Both sustained injuries and were shifted to a hospital in Tirupati. Their condition is reported to be stable.
Renigunta DSP Srinivasa Rao, along with Srikalahasti RDO Bhanu Prakash Reddy and tahsildar Chandra Sekhar Reddy, visited the site to assess the situation. Assistant district fire officer Kiran Kumar Reddy said that foam was used to suppress the fire and added that initial findings point to solvent leakage from a reactor filter as the possible cause. An investigation is underway to ascertain the exact reason behind the explosion.
