Rains Hit AP, but Scorching Heat Persists

Visakhapatnam: Activating the southwest monsoon, light to moderate rains lashed several parts of north and south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema on Thursday. However, there was no significant relief from the prevailing heatwave conditions.

Stella S, director of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Andhra Pradesh, said that light to moderate rains are expected to continue across the state till July 24, with isolated heavy rainfall in some areas. Thereafter, light to moderate showers are likely over a few places in north coastal Andhra Pradesh, she added.
Prakhar Jain, managing director of the Andhra Pradesh state disaster management authority, said thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are likely on Friday in NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam, Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore, Kurnool, Nandyal, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, YSR, Annamayya, Chittoor, and Tirupati districts.
On Saturday, light to heavy rains with thunderstorms are expected at isolated places in Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam, SPS Nellore districts. On Sunday, light to moderate rains with thundershowers are likely at some places in Kakinada, Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam, SPS Nellore, Kurnool, Nandyal, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, YSR, Annamayya, Chittoor, and Tirupati districts.Srungavarapukota (Vizianagaram district) received the highest rainfall of 11.4 cms followed by Anakapalle 4.6, Parvathipuram (Parvathipuram Manyam) 4.5, Seethanagaram ( Parvathipuram Manyam) 4.2, Mentada (Vizianagaram) 3.8, Mangalagiri (Guntur) 3.7.
In Rayalaseema region, Chittoor received the highest fall of 9.8 cm, Pakala (Tirupati) 9.6, Nagari (Chittoor ) 5.6 and Nandyal 5.6.
Simultaneously, the temperature also rose in the State on Thursday. Narasapur recorded 39 degrees Celsius (+6.5), Jangamaheswarapuram recorded 39.8 (+4.9), Tuni 38 (+4.1) and Ongole 39.1 (+3.7).
