Rain Pushes Heavy Inflows Into Srisailam Reservoir

Rains swell catchment areas; over 1.97 lakh cusecs reaching Srisailam, gates opened at Sunkesula

Kurnool: The Srisailam reservoir is receiving heavy inflows due to rains in the upper catchment areas. By 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, it was getting 1,97,188 cusecs of water, with officials releasing 1,03,060 cusecs downstream. The reservoir currently holds 191.21 tmc ft of water, compared to its full capacity of 215 tmc ft. Jurala is also witnessing large inflows of 1,09,735 cusecs and releasing 1,07,420 cusecs.

Meanwhile, the Sunkesula reservoir is getting around 70,000 cusecs of water. To manage the water levels, officials have opened 16 gates, releasing 68,188 cusecs downstream towards Srisailam. The reservoir holds 1.07 tmc ft of water against its full capacity of 1.2 tmc ft. Additionally, 2,012 cusecs are being released through the KC canal to meet drinking water needs.
