VISAKHAPATNAM: Light to moderate rain lashed parts of the north coastal Andhra Pradesh on Monday. The IMD, Amaravati, forecast that parts of the NCAP will experience heavy rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday (August 26 and August 27), while parts of the south coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP) and Rayalaseema regions will receive thunderstorms during the period.

The IMD mentioned that the upper air cyclonic circulation over the northwest Bay of Bengal off the Odisha-West Bengal coasts persisted between 1.5 and 5.8 km above mean sea level, tilting southwards with height. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the same region by Wednesday. The weather agency said that heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places is likely in parts of the Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, and Anakapalle districts of NCAP. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely over NCAP, Yanam, SCAP and Rayalaseema. Strong winds with speeds of 30-40 kmph are likely at isolated places over NCAP, Yanam, SCAP and Rayalaseema on Aug 26 and 27.

During the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Monday, Parvathipuram in the Parvathipuram Manyam district recorded 2 cm of rainfall, while Komarada, Kurupam, Jiyyammavalasa and Garugubilli – all in the Manyam district – received 1 cm of rainfall each during this period.
