Visakhapatnam: Residents of Visakhapatnam and surrounding areas experienced welcome relief on Wednesday as rainfall dampened the region, even as much of Andhra Pradesh continued to swelter under intense summer heat. Tuni recorded the highest rainfall at 2.1 cm, while Visakhapatnam registered 0.8 cm of precipitation. The brief showers offered temporary respite to those who have been enduring weeks of hot and humid conditions.

Despite the isolated rainfall, most parts of Andhra Pradesh remained in the grip of severe heat. Nandyal recorded the highest temperature of the day at a scorching 41.2 degrees Celsius, followed closely by Tirupati at 40.8 degrees Celsius and Anantapur at 40.3 degrees Celsius. Kurnool also experienced intense heat, with temperatures reaching 39.9 degrees Celsius.

Coastal areas, however, provided some relief from the extreme conditions. Kakinada recorded 36.2 degrees Celsius, while Visakhapatnam remained relatively cooler at 30.0 degrees Celsius.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) attributed the current weather pattern to a north–south trough extending from a cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan to north Kerala. This system passes through southeast Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Marathwada, and interior Karnataka, and extends up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.

Additionally, an upper air cyclonic circulation has formed over north Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam at an altitude of 0.9 km above mean sea level, influencing local weather conditions. The IMD has issued a detailed forecast for the coming week, predicting heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 50–60 kmph in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh over the next five days.
