Rabi MSP Hike Cited A Great Help To Farmers

VIJAYAWADA: Agriculture Minister K. Atchannaidu on Wednesday welcomed the Centre’s decision to increase the minimum support prices (MSP) for all designated rabi crops for the 2027-28 marketing season, saying this would be of great help to farmers.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the cabinet committee on economic affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to Atchannaidu, the MSP for wheat has been fixed at ₹2,610 per quintal, barley ₹2,286, gram ₹5,958, masur ₹7,390, rapeseed and mustard ₹6,613 and safflower ₹7,215.
Compared with the previous season, the MSP for safflower has been increased by ₹675 per quintal, rapeseed and mustard by ₹413, masur by ₹390, barley by ₹136, gram by ₹83 and wheat by ₹25.
The minister said the higher support prices for pulses and oilseeds would encourage farmers to diversify their crops and help strengthen the agricultural economy.
Atchannaidu said the state government was taking steps to ensure timely availability of seeds, fertilisers and other agricultural inputs to farmers. Where necessary, market intervention would also be undertaken to ensure remunerative prices for farm produce.
