Vijayawada: Governor (Justice) S. Abdul Nazeer has said the celebration of the 77th Republic Day is historic as the National Flag has been unfurled for the first time in Amaravati, the peoples’ capital of Andhra Pradesh.
Addressing the gathering marking Republic Day on Monday, the Governor said that for several years, AP remained without clear direction, as its capital project remained stalled, its economic confidence shaken, the state suffered erosion of investor trust and its financial stability weakened.
He said, ‘Despite these challenges, the government has worked with quiet determination to restore stability and rebuild confidence. Every initiative, reform and review has been aimed at reviving growth and fulfilling the aspirations of the people.”
The Governor pointed out that these efforts were yielding results, with projects moving forward and institutions regaining their strength. Public trust was being rebuilt, he said, and asserted that the journey of recovery and transformation has begun in the state.
Justice Nazeer mentioned AP's clear vision called ‘Swarna Andhra @ 2047’ wherein the goal was to build a strong, inclusive and globally competitive state by the centenary of India’s Independence, in 2047. He dwelt at length on the ten fundamental principles of governance that would serve as a framework to realise the state’s vision.
These, he said, include implementation of Super Six to deliver dignity, pride, security and happiness to every individual and empowerment to every family. He cited the NTR Bharosa, under which the monthly pension of Rs 4,000 was the highest in the country—Rs 6,000 for persons with disabilities, with a total of 63.12 lakh pensioners benefitting through SERP and ensuring dignity in their daily lives.
As for the Deepam 2.0, three free LPG cylinders are given a year to homes of the poor that benefited 1.08 crore people.
The Sthree Shakti, he said, enabled 37.80 crore women, girls and transgender persons to travel free in the RTC buses. Under ‘Housing for All’, three lakh homes were inaugurated on November 12, 2025 and another five lakh will be completed by Ugadi festival. The P4 programme launched on Ugadi, 2025, with a goal of ‘Zero Poverty’ had an enrolment of over one lakh ‘Margadarsis’, who have adopted 10.30 lakh Bangaru Kutumbalu, he said.
The governor said that the massive investments were reshaping employment with the `10 lakh crore Green Hydrogen Valley project to create 7.5 lakh jobs while 75 new industrial projects worth `4.18 lakh crore would generate 3.18 lakh more jobs.
He noted, “Water is a lifeline for AP. My government treats every drop as precious, securing both fields and taps. We are advising interlinking of rivers from Vamsadhara to Godavari, Krishna and Penna, to ensure every cultivable acre receives adequate water.”
he Polavaram project, he said, was targeted for commissioning by December, 2027 so that it could help irrigate 7.2 lakh new acres and stabilise 23.50 lakh acres and generate 960mw of power. The Polavaram-Nallamala Sagar link project was being actively pursued.
Justice Nazeer said, “AP being a lower riparian state is intending to use the water that would otherwise reach the sea, and we would ensure no harm to neighbouring states.”
He noted that beyond the capital Amaravati, the government was shaping the Visakhapatnam Economic Region into a $750-800 billion economic engine by 2047. The Visakhapatnam Metro (46.23km; at `11,498 cr) and the Vijayawada Metro (38.40km; at `10,118 cr) were approved, he said, while Greenfield expressways like Nagpur-Vijayawada and Kharagpur-Visakhapatnam-
