ANANTAPUR: A tense situation prevailed in Anantapur on Sunday as a Telugu Desam MLA’s “abusive and filthy” comments against Junior NT Rama Rao went viral. Harsh comments were also made against Nara Lokesh.
The comments were made in a telephonic conversation by Anantapur urban MLA Daggupati Prasad. After the audio got circulated on social media, enraged Jr NTR fans seized his office and demanded an open apology. The urban MLA is also facing other allegations, including an attempt to grab a hospital in Sai Nagar in the heart of the city.
The MLA, in the leaked conversation, is also heard threatening to set ablaze the theatres that screen the War-II movie in Anantapur without his permission.
However, Prasad claimed that the audio was fake. “My rivals in the party are behind this,” he said.
It is explained that TNSF leader Dhanunjaya Naidu of Anantapur, a Jr NTR fans association leader, called MLA Prasad on phone and invited him to view the movie. The MLA got angry, asking the caller how the movie could be screened in Anantapur theatres without MLA-permission, and abused Jr NTR.
In the audio, the MLA is also heard saying he had no regard for minister Nara Lokesh. Prasad was also heard advising the TNSF leader that there was no need to support JR NTR films because he had no links to the TD. The MLA threatened to visit the theatre and to set it on fire.
The entire audio clip, of more than 6 minutes’ phone conversation, went viral on Sunday, sparking instant protests. Police rushed to the spot and resisted the protesters from entering the MLA’s office. The angry fans damaged the flexi boards erected in front of the office.
The protesters claimed that they were Jr NTR fans and also TD activists who worked for the victory of the “unknown” Daggupati Prasad, him being the party candidate.
“We are hurt over the abusive comments and filthy language used by the MLA against respectable persons. He should come into public and seek an apology in the presence of Jr NTR fans. We would continue our protest until he does this,” fans association leaders said.
In view of the tense situation, the MLA released a video, saying the phone conversation in his name was fake and that this was created by his rivals in the party to tarnish his image. “However, though the audio was not mine, I am seeking apology to Jr NTR fans,” he said.
The MLA said he lodged a complaint with the SP over the “fake” audio release.
It may be noted the urban MLA has been facing allegations over corrupt practices and land grabbing. Recently, a group attacked a private hospital to grab its land. They did it in the name of the MLA. The former urban MLA, Prabhkar Chowdary of the TD, came down heavily against Prasad, saying his actions have hurt the party’s image.
