Vijayawada: President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to visit the Sri Kanaka Durga temple in Vijayawada on Wednesday to offer prayers to the presiding deity, who is being worshipped in the Sri Maha Chandi Alankaram. In view of the President’s visit, the police have made elaborate security arrangements at the temple and its surroundings.

The Dasara Sharannavaratri celebrations at the Sri Kanaka Durga temple atop Indrakeeladri in Vijayawada have entered their fourth day. On Wednesday, the presiding deity was adorned as Sri Maha Chandi.

Devotees have been queuing up at the temple since morning to have darshan of the goddess. With large numbers of devotees thronging the temple, officials have made special arrangements to facilitate darshan. The hill reverberates with chants of “Jai Durga, Jai Jai Durga.”

According to religious scholars, Sri Maha Chandi embodies the three divine powers of Maha Lakshmi, Maha Kali and Maha Saraswati. She is believed to have manifested to fulfil the objectives of the gods, destroy evil forces and protect the virtuous.

Scholars explained that several deities reside within Sri Maha Chandi and that worshipping her is considered equivalent to offering prayers to all gods and goddesses. Devotees believe that the goddess's blessings bring knowledge, fame and prosperity, and that even enemies may turn into friends. They also believe that prayers offered to her for the fulfilment of their wishes yield results quickly.
