Visakhapatnam: Amid rising Covid-19 cases across India, Praja Arogya Vedika has sent an urgent letter to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, demanding strict implementation of health precautions during the upcoming Mahanadu event in Kadapa. Scheduled from May 27 to 29, the event is expected to draw nearly five lakh attendees, a size that raises concerns amid the recent surge in cases. Praja Arogya Vedika noted that India recorded 1,009 new Covid-19 cases, with states like Kerala registering 430, Maharashtra 209, Delhi 104, and Gujarat 83 by May 26.

The health advocacy group warns that large-scale gatherings could spark a super spreader incident, jeopardising public health. The letter emphasises that current guidelines from the central and state governments explicitly advise against mass events and require extra caution, particularly among older people and children. Praja Arogya Vedika calls for measures such as limiting crowd sizes, enforcing six-foot social distancing, mandating N95 mask usage, implementing scheduled entry and exit times, and maintaining frequent sanitisation across the venue.

Praja Arogya Vedika has expressed alarm that government- or politically organised events could undermine public safety messaging. Praja Arogya Vedika appeals to the CM, urging swift action to ensure that the Mahanadu event adheres strictly to Covid-19 protocols, protecting the community from further outbreaks.
