ANANTAPUR: As part of the Road Safety Mission to prevent road accidents, Anantapur district police on Friday organised a flash mob awareness programme at the Clock Tower Centre, led by superintendent of police P. Jagadish.
The programme conveyed the importance of road safety rules through song and dance and drew a large crowd. Students of Chaitanya School, guided by Discover Anantapur organiser A.G. Anil Kumar, performed a themed dance to the road safety song “O Akka Jagratha… O Anna Jagratha”, delivering a strong message on responsible driving.
The flash mob highlighted key safety measures, including compulsory use of helmets and seatbelts, avoiding drunken driving, controlling over-speeding and strict adherence to traffic rules. A visual sequence portraying the fatal consequences of riding without a helmet—leading to the death of a family breadwinner—left a deep impact on the audience.
Addressing the gathering, Jagadish said road accidents could devastate families within seconds and stressed that preventive measures were more important than regret after loss of life. He noted that most accidents occur due to over-speeding, drunken driving and failure to wear helmets and seatbelts.
“Wearing a helmet is not a punishment; it is protection for your family. A seatbelt is not a restriction; it is a lifesaver,” he said, adding that road safety should be practised with respect for human life, not merely out of fear of law.
To reinforce the message, a mangled four-wheeler from a previous accident was displayed at the venue, illustrating the consequences of negligence. Chocolates were distributed to motorists wearing helmets as part of the awareness drive.
Trainee IPS officer Ashwini Manideep, Anantapur DSP V. Srinivasa Rao, circle inspectors Venkatesh Naik, Zakir, Venkateshwarlu, Srikant, Rajendranath Yadav, Jagadish and others were present.
