Police stopped an alleged attempt to distribute mutton to voters in Prakasam district, preventing further slaughter and notifying election officials of a possible MCC violation.
Police foiled an alleged attempt to distribute mutton to voters in Ayyapparajupalem village under the Nippatlapadu MPTC limits in Chimakurthy mandal of Prakasam district, in violation of the election code.
Acting on credible information that 20 sheep had been arranged to distribute one kg of mutton to each household to influence voters, Chimakurthy circle inspector D. Prasad inspected the spot on Wednesday.
Police found that six sheep had already been slaughtered and the meat was being packed for distribution allegedly under the leadership of YSR Congress leader Chinnapareddy Ramana Reddy, 45, son of Kotireddy and a resident of Ayyapparajupalem.
The police stopped the packing and distribution and prevented the slaughter of the remaining 14 sheep.
The police informed the local returning officer-cum-mandal parishad development officer (MPDO) to initiate appropriate action over the alleged violation of election rules.
Circle inspector D. Prasad said the raid was conducted based on a report from a team monitoring violations of the model code of conduct (MCC).
