Tirupati: The Chittoor district police officers association has claimed that the recent accusations made against the police by the YSR Congress leaders were politically motivated.

Association functionaries Uday Kumar, Parandhama Naidu, Khader Basha and Saravana were referring to the allegations made by Ambati Rambabu, Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, and Vijayanand Reddy. These undermined the morale of the police force, they claimed.
The association justified the suspension of a personal security officer attached to former minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, saying the action followed a departmental inquiry. “The officer violated VIP protocol during an event in Rajamahendravaram. There is no political angle to this suspension,” it said.
Countering Bhumana’s claims that the police were being unofficially deployed at the SP’s residence, the association leaders said, “The SP’s official premises house multiple operational units like Special Branch, Eagle Task Force, Dog Squad, Communication Office etc. All personnel posted there are on official duty.”
The police staff posted at the SP’s residence included not just constables and home guards, but also Category-C employees such as cooks, barbers, washermen, carpenters, electricians, sweepers and gardeners. “These appointments followed official recruitment guidelines,” they stated.
Responding to Ambati Rambabu’s remark that a rowdy-sheet would be opened against Chittoor SP Manikanta Chandolu if YSRC returned to power, the association said such statements hurt the morale of the police force.
“Even though the police gave permission for the interaction programme former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy with 500 mango farmers during his visit to Bangarupalem, threats are being hurled against senior officers.”
The association also objected to the alleged verbal abuse by M Vijayanand Reddy during the same event. Defending CI Nettikantayya and SI Ramesh Babu, the association said both acted lawfully under ‘instructions’ to maintain order.
