PM Modi Highlights Narsapuram Lace Craft as a Model of Women’s Empowerment

KAKINADA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the lace products made by self-help groups in Narsapur of West Godavari district during his 129th “Man-Ki-Baat” broadcast on Sunday.

Explaining how women are majorly contributing to economic progress, the PM quoted the example of lace craft in Narsapur gaining recognition across the country. The craft has passed through hands of women belonging to many generations and even today has its USP.

Narendra Modi underlined that Andhra Pradesh and NABARD are working together to teach artisans new designs, provide them better skills, and connect them to new markets. Narsapur lace has gone on to receive a Geographical Indication (GI) TAG.

The Prime Minister said more than 500 products are being produced in 250 villages by nearly one lakh women, who are earning regular income.

Modi went on to describe Man Ki Baat as a platform to highlight people who, through their hard work, are not only carrying forward traditional arts but also empowering local communities in the process.

Union ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Union minister of state for steel and heavy industries Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma, AP ministers Payyavula Kesav and Nimmala Ramanaidu, MLAs Pithani Satyanarayana, Bommidi Naicker and Bolisetti Srinivas, West Godavari district collector Chadalawada Nagarani, district superintendent of police Adnan Nayeem Asmi, Bharatiya Janata Party state p-resident P.V.N. Madhav are among those who heard Narendra Modi’s Man-Ki-Baat programme at Narsapuram.
