Kurnool: With the vision of transforming Banaganapalle into a lush green town, Roads and Buildings Minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy has called upon all people to join hands in a massive sapling plantation initiative. Speaking at the Haritha Banaganapalle public meeting held at Petrol Bunk Circle, he observed that Banaganapalle, once known for its greenery, has gradually turned into a concrete jungle with cement roads and tall structures everywhere.

To reverse this, his wife, B.C. Indiramma, personally contributed Rs. 30 lakhs to purchase saplings and pots, launching this ambitious planting drive. The minister said that the plants were specially sourced from Kadiyam nurseries in the East Godavari district to ensure good quality. Initially, saplings will be planted along road dividers, in government offices, hospitals, and educational institutions.

He appealed to the people of Banaganapalle to take responsibility for nurturing the saplings into trees and hoped students and youth would participate with enthusiasm. The minister noted that the “Plastic-Free Banaganapalle” campaign was already 80% complete and urged everyone to cooperate in eradicating the remaining plastic use.

District collector G. Rajakumari emphasised that no social programme can succeed without people’s active involvement and urged people to become partners in this effort. B.C. Indiramma stated that the goal is to make Banaganapalle resemble a tranquil ashram. She also appealed to the few remaining shops still using plastic to support completing the last phase of the campaign.
