Plans To Achieve A 15% Growth Rate In Agri Sector: Atchannaidu

Vijayawada:Agriculture minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu, stated that the transfer process of government employees will be completed transparently by the end of this month, urging officials not to fall prey to brokers or intermediaries. He held a video conference with mandal-level officials from agriculture, horticulture, sericulture, animal husbandry, and cooperation departments across the state. Atchannaidu also emphasised promoting the use of nano urea and nano DAP to save 20,000 metric tonnes of granular urea.

Atchannaidu said the government plans to achieve a 15% growth rate in agriculture and allied sectors from the Kharif season, and with the onset of the monsoon approaching, full preparedness and alertness are highly required for Kharif season cultivation. He instructed the officials to implement the action plan formulated to enhance gross value addition in various agriculture and allied sectors during this Kharif season.

The minister further instructed to encourage farmers to shift from traditional crops to horticultural crops, to focus on natural farming to reduce the use of chemical fertilisers in the state, and instructed the Cooperation Commissioner, Babu A., to provide loans for tenant farmers –Crop Cultivator Rights Card (CCRC) card holders. Atchannaidu sought to promote the cultivation of fine rice varieties and ensure the selection and supply of region-specific local rice varieties.

Special secretary for agriculture and cooperation Budithi Rajasekhar stated that compared to other states, the service sector growth rate in Andhra Pradesh is significantly low. He emphasised that achieving gross value and growth rate in the agricultural sector is the only way to secure funds for the state. He urged field-level officials to be fully sensitised in this regard.

Director of agriculture Dilli Rao urged farmers to cultivate locally profitable alternative crops. He further directed that soil test reports be printed and distributed to farmers, with instructions to field staff to ensure the use of recommended fertilisers based on these reports.
