People of Konaseema Islets Still Using Boats to Commute
Daily wagers living in these villages are taking boats to reach the mandal headquarters, so that they could find work.
Kakinada: People of the islet villages, including G. Pedapudi Lanka, Arigerivarilanka, Burugulanka, Udimudi Lanka, Bellampudi and Manepalli in P. Gannavaram mandal of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district are continuing to face hardships following the floods in River Godavari.
Daily wagers living in these villages are taking boats to reach the mandal headquarters, so that they could find work.
Boats remain the only way the islet villagers can bring essential commodities to their home.
At present there are three boats in service, including two to G. Pedapudi Lanka for the convenience of people.
P. Gannavaram tahsildar P. Sri Pallavi said the boats are in operation from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. for usage by farmers and daily wagers. She said all steps are being taken to mitigate the problems caused due to the floods.
According to reports, flood waters are receding at Bhadrachalam. This may bring relief to the islet villages by the evening of Wednesday.
