Vijayawada: Union minister of state for rural development, Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, has said Andhra Pradesh is implementing several developmental works with central support.

The minister was speaking after he performed bhoomi puja for construction of an urban primary health centre in Division 28 of Guntur West assembly segment on Sunday. Local west MLA Galla Madhavi was also present.

“I sanctioned this project when the then health special chief secretary Krishna Babu made the proposal. Similar urban health centres could be set up region-wise,” the minister said, adding that these would help reduce the burden on the government hospitals.

The health centre is being constructed at an estimated cost of `1 crore.

Madhavi said the constituency lacked basic amenities for nearly 10 years. “After the present government took charge, it started taking up several developmental works,” the MLA said and underscored the need to resolve issues of drinking water, garbage disposal, mosquito menace, roads, parks, community halls etc.

The Union minister also visited the Guntur east assembly segment and set the stone for construction of an elevated storage tank at BR Stadium along with local MLA Mohammad Naseer Ahmad. He said the existing elevated storage tanks built 30-40 years ago developed problems due to faulty construction designs, while some had foundation issues.

“In such a scenario, we decided to build new ones with the latest designs to meet the drinking water requirements of lakhs of people. These would last 50 years,” he said.

Chandrasekhar promised to ensure potable water to the people in Guntur under AMRUT-2.
