Pemmasani Blames Jagan for Bhogapuram Airport Delay
Pemmasani stated that by 2019, the then TDP government had acquired around 2,200 acres, while the acquisition of the remaining 500 acres was delayed due to court cases allegedly filed by YSRCP leaders.
Amaravati: Union Minister Pemmasani Chandrasekhar on Sunday alleged that the construction of the Bhogapuram International Airport was delayed due to decisions taken by the previous YSRCP government led by Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Addressing the media in New Delhi, Pemmasani said the Bhogapuram Airport project was conceptualised by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in 2015 and GMR had agreed to develop the airport on 2,700 acres of land.
He further stated that by 2019, the then TDP government had acquired around 2,200 acres, while the acquisition of the remaining 500 acres was delayed due to court cases allegedly filed by YSRCP leaders.
Pemmasani claimed that after the YSRCP came to power in 2019, the government withdrew some of the cases and acquired only 300 acres. He further alleged that the Jagan government ordered a re-tender for the project, citing allegations of corruption, which led to further delays in its execution.
Questioning the YSRCP's claims over the project, the Union Minister said the groundwork for the airport had already been completed during the previous TDP government and asked how the credit for the project could be attributed to Jagan Mohan Reddy.
