PCB Urges People To Opt For Green Bhogi
Karunasri encouraged citizens to refrain from burning waste and to adopt eco-friendly practices instead: Reports
VISAKHAPATNAM: The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board's Srikakulam regional office has urged the public to celebrate the Sankranti, Bhogi, and Kanuma festivals in a pollution-free and eco-friendly manner.
B. Karunasri, an environmental engineer at the board, highlighted that while Sankranti is a celebration of India’s rich culture and traditions, the practice of burning plastic, rubber, old clothes, tires, and other hazardous waste during Bhogi leads to severe air pollution.
She warned that such activities pose serious health risks, especially for children, senior citizens, and individuals with respiratory conditions.
Karunasri encouraged citizens to refrain from burning waste and to adopt eco-friendly practices instead. She stressed the importance of caring for livestock during Kanuma, maintaining cleanliness in public areas, avoiding littering, and reducing plastic usage to protect the environment.
In conclusion, she stated that festivals should bring joy while also fostering a sense of responsibility towards nature. Karunasri called on everyone to unite in celebrating a pollution-free Sankranti.
