TIRUPATI: The annual Pavitrotsavams at the hill temple of Sri Venkateswara Swamy in Tirumala commenced on Tuesday with great religious fervour. The sacred rituals began with the Pavitra Pratishta ceremony, conducted in accordance with Agama traditions.

As part of the proceedings, the processional deities of Sri Malayappa Swamy, flanked by His consorts Sri Devi and Bhu Devi, were ceremoniously brought to the Yagashala within the Pavitra Mandapam in the morning. Priests performed a series of Vedic rituals, including homams, invoking divine blessings.

Later, the Snapana Tirumanjanam was conducted at the Sampangi Prakaram. The deities were given a sacred bath using fragrant substances such as milk, curd, honey, sandalwood paste, and turmeric. Accompanying the rituals, Vedic scholars chanted the Pancha Suktas as part of the spiritual proceedings. Following the ablutions, the Pavitra Pratishta ceremony was performed with due sanctity. Special offerings were made to the deities in the afternoon.

In the evening, Malayappa Swamy, accompanied by Sri Devi and Bhu Devi, was taken in a grand procession through the four mada streets surrounding the temple, offering darshan to thousands of devotees gathered along the route. Vedic rituals continued at the Yagashala through the night.

Tirumala Pedda Jeeyar Swamy and Chinna Jeeyar Swamy, TTD additional executive officer Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary, chief priest, deputy EO M. Lokanatham, Peishkar Rama Krishna, and several devotees were present.
