Vijayawada: The political parties across the board in AP want the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls to be conducted by the Election Commission in a fair and transparent manner.

They feel this would ensure that no genuine voter misses his/her name in the rolls to cast vote in the election.

Though SIR is dogged by controversy with apprehensions on deletion of names of select voters based on political prejudices etc and a likely lack of transparency, the parties say the process should be conducted in an error-free manner.

YSR Congress MP from Tirupati, M Gurumoorthy, said, “We will verify the rolls to find out any lapses and seek corrections. We will see that no intentional or motivated deletion of names of voters is done. The name of every citizen having the right to vote should be there in the electoral rolls.”

“We will raise objections in case any names of fake voters are found.”

BJP MP Paka Satyanarayana said, “We want a fair means of revision of electoral rolls in the state. In West Bengal, nearly 23 lakh deceased persons remained as voters for seven years. Those who were not having citizenship became voters. But, we want genuine voters to cast their vote to uphold the objective of democracy.”

Meanwhile, political parties have started preparatory work for SIR by training the party cadre to enable them to play the role of booth level agents to ensure only the genuine voters find their names in the electoral rolls.

Jana Sena MLA from Razole Vara Prasad said, “We want SIR to address major issues like duplication of voters and presence of names of the deceased voters.”

Moreover, leaders mainly from the TDP, Jana Sena, BJP and YSRC maintain that they along with their cadre will be very active in the field during the SIR to ensure that no name of any genuine voter is deleted from the rolls.
