Dr. Lakshmisha directed officials to continuously monitor the functioning of Aadhaar centres and take steps to establish a permanent Aadhaar enrolment centre at the Vijayawada Collectorate
VIJAYAWADA: Parents have been urged to complete the Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) of their children’s Aadhaar details within the stipulated deadline to avoid difficulties in accessing Aadhaar-linked services in the future.
NTR district collector Dr. G. Lakshmisha said biometric updates for children in the age groups of 5–7 years and 15–17 years would be provided free of cost until September 30, 2026. He asked parents to make use of the facility and ensure that their children’s biometric details were updated on time.
The collector reviewed Aadhaar enrolment and updating services at a meeting of the district-level Aadhaar Monitoring Committee held at the AVS Reddy Conference Hall in the Vijayawada Collectorate on Tuesday.
Officials informed him that MBU was pending for 31,184 children aged between 5 and 7 years and 37,470 children aged between 15 and 17 years, taking the total number of pending updates to 68,654 in the district.
The district currently has 206 Aadhaar enrolment centres, and 28,821 Aadhaar enrolment and update transactions were completed during the past month, officials said.
Dr. Lakshmisha directed officials to continuously monitor the functioning of Aadhaar centres and take steps to establish a permanent Aadhaar enrolment centre at the Vijayawada Collectorate. He also instructed the Aadhaar nodal officer to initiate measures to set up permanent centres at RDO and tahsildar offices.
The collector called for coordinated efforts by the Education, ICDS and Intermediate Education departments to identify children whose biometric updates were pending. He said awareness programmes should be conducted through schools, anganwadi centres and junior colleges to educate children and parents about the importance of timely Aadhaar updates.
Officials from the Revenue, VMC, Police, Education, DRDA, Health, Postal and other departments attended the meeting.
