Parents Carry Infant’s Body For 5 Km As Ambulance Leaves Them Midway
PVTG Sangaham leaders and activists demanded swift action against the ambulance driver and the authorities responsible to prevent such incidents in the future.
VISAKHAPATNAM: In a tragic incident, the parents of a two-month-old were forced to walk five kilometers carrying their baby’s body as the driver of the ambulance transporting them abandoned them mid-way on their way to their native place from Visakhapatnam. The infant, belonging to a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) family from Madrebu village, had died while undergoing treatment at King George Hospital (KGH) here on Friday.
The parents, Sedari Shailu and Sedari Arjun, the residents of Peddakota Panchayat in Ananthagiri mandal, had taken their child’s body in an ambulance headed to Araku. However, the driver of the ambulance left them midway on the Kothavalasa Road. Then, the hapless parents had to borrow `6,000 from a relative to hire an auto-rickshaw to take the body up to Sariya village. From there, they had to carry the body on foot for five kilometres in the darkness, finally reaching their native place at 11 pm on May 23.
PVTG Sangaham leaders and activists demanded swift action against the ambulance driver and the authorities responsible to prevent such incidents in the future. The incident has reignited concerns over medical transport negligence.
In a similar recent incident, the family of one Chedari Chilakamma was forced to carry her body back home on foot.
