VIJAYAWADA: The supervisory committee of the Union Environment Ministry has expressed satisfaction over the ongoing environmental protection and flood management efforts in Amaravati.

During a review visit on Thursday, the team led by additional secretary to the ministry, Amandeep Garg, inspected various infrastructure projects in the capital region.

Garg and some officials first visited the river water quality monitoring station at Undavalli and later the Kondaveeti Vagu flood pumping station. CRDA commissioner K Kannababu and additional commissioner Surya Sai Praveen Chand briefed him on the steps taken to handle floodwaters in Amaravati.

Garg appreciated the ongoing efforts and future plans being taken up by the CRDA and the Amaravati Development Corporation towards flood management.

Later, at the Seed Access road area, the CRDA commissioner explained to him the progress of trunk infrastructure construction, greenery development and local planning scheme (LPS) zone works.

Garg also visited the TIDCO housing complexes and residential quarters being built for MLAs, MLCs and officials, voicing satisfaction over the construction quality.

He inspected the translocated nursery, set up for urban greenery conservation.

The visit concluded with a review meeting at the state secretariat, where CRDA and ADCL officials gave a detailed presentation to the supervisory committee. Three other members of the committee joined the meeting in virtual mode.

The officials briefed the panel on the progress of capital city construction, social welfare measures being implemented for residents, disaster management initiatives, and safety arrangements made for workers and women.

The meeting was attended by ADCL chairperson and MD, DL Parthasarathi, and senior officials of CRDA and ADCL.
