Panchayat Raj AE Family Suicide Case: Accused Apprehended in UP
A case was registered by Rajamahendravaram II Town Police in connection with the Godavari river incident involving Nukaraju and his family.
Kakinada : An accused in the case involving the death of a Panchayat Raj Assistant Engineer (AE) and his family in the Godavari River near Rajamahendravaram has been arrested, a senior police official said on Monday.Assistant Engineer Nukaraju, his wife Meena, daughter Sowjanya and their 10-year-old grandson allegedly jumped into the Godavari River near Road-cum-Rail Bridge in Rajahmundry on August 16. Local fishermen rescued the boy, while Nukaraju, Meena and Sowjanya died.
In a suicide note allegedly written by Sowjanya, Shaik Sadiq Khan was accused of harassing the family, interfering in their affairs and attempting to gain control of their bank accounts, besides threatening them.
She also alleged that Khan had been blackmailing her for nearly two years using private videos, and poisoned her husband Jagadish Reddy and staged his death as suicide.
"We have arrested Khan in connection with the case involving the death of Nukaraju and his family in the Godavari River, as well as a separate murder case registered in Kakinada," Kakinada district Superintendent of Police (SP) G Bindu Madhav said at a press conference.
Considering the seriousness of the case, six special teams were constituted to investigate the matter; a special team later travelled to Meerut in Uttar Pradesh and, with the assistance of local police, Khan was apprehended from the vicinity of Nauchandi Police Station on August 22.

Following his arrest, the accused was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Meerut; a transit warrant was obtained, and he was brought to Kakinada.
He is being produced before the Kakinada Special Mobile Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, police said.
Madhav said that an investigation is continuing into the matters mentioned in the suicide note of the deceased, the role of the accused person, the circumstances surrounding the death of Jagadish Reddy, suspicious aspects, matters relating to religious conversion and the threats allegedly made by the accused against the deceased, among other issues.
Mobile phones, digital evidence, CCTV footage, call data records, medical records, bank transactions and other evidence are being scientifically examined as part of the investigation, the SP added.
