Nellore: A postman was seriously injured after a China manja nylon kite string became entangled around his neck at Singarayakonda on Tuesday.
According to family members, kite flying has been in full swing in the village for the past ten days in view of the Sankranti festival. A kite had earlier got stuck on a neem tree in the Driverpet area, leaving a nylon string hanging loosely.
While Gopi, a postman, was passing through the area on his two-wheeler to deliver letters, the nylon string was blown by the wind and suddenly wrapped tightly around his neck, causing severe injuries. Local residents rushed him to the nearby Primary Health Centre, where he was given first aid.
He was later shifted to RIMS Hospital in Ongole in a 108 ambulance for further treatment. Doctors said his condition is stable, and family members said timely medical attention helped save his life.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the use of dangerous China manja nylon kite strings during the festive season.
