Ongole Court Sentences Man To 10 Years For Cheating Woman

TIRUPATI: A local court in Ongole on Friday sentenced a 27-year-old man to ten years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 12,000 in a case of cheating and sexually exploiting a 20-year-old woman on the promise of marriage.

The incident took place in 2018, when Kodamula Ravi of Lingangunta village in Hanumanthunipadu mandal allegedly assured the young woman that he would marry her, made her pregnant and later refused to take responsibility.

Based on her complaint filed on June 16, 2018, Hanumanthunipadu police registered a case. Then Pamur Circle Inspector Madhu Babu, who was holding additional charge of Kanigiri, investigated the case, arrested the accused and sent him to remand before filing the chargesheet in court.

During the trial, police ensured that all witnesses were produced on time. Additional Public Prosecutors Yattapu Kondareddy and K.V. Rameshwar Reddy argued the case on behalf of the prosecution. After examining the evidence, Second Additional District and Sessions Judge Pandiri Lalitha pronounced the sentence on Friday.

Prakasam district SP V. Harshavardhan Raju appreciated the investigation officers, court liaison staff and the prosecution team for their coordinated effort in securing the conviction.
