Normal Life Remains Disrupted In ASR District With Overflowing Streams
In its latest forecast, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said thunderstorms with lightning are likely over coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP), Yanam and Rayalaseema on Saturday and Sunday.
VISAKHAPATNAM: Though rains have receded in Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district, streams and rivulets have continued to overflow on Friday, disrupting normal life.
Last one week’s rains in parts of ASR and Anakapalli districts in north Andhra have damaged culverts and roads, causing much inconvenience to commuters. Overflowing streams and rivulets have cut off villages in interior parts of G.K. Veedhi, G. Madugula, Hukumpeta, Pedabayalu and Munchingput mandals.
Though crumbling, a causeway over a stream had continued to connect G. Kothapalle and Turuvolu in Cheedikada mandal in ASR district. However, the causeway got completely washed away in the heavy rains. Locals are struggling as a result.
In its latest forecast, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said thunderstorms with lightning are likely over coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP), Yanam and Rayalaseema on Saturday and Sunday. Strong winds with speeds of 30–40 kmph are likely at isolated places over CAP and Rayalaseema during the period.
As per the IMD, between Thursday morning and Friday morning, parts of Rayalaseema reported rainfall between 2 cm and 5 cm, while certain regions in CAP received 2–3 cm of rains.
