VIJAYAWADA: The Amaravati Development Corporation Limited (ADCL) has dismissed reports claiming that steel girders of the bridge under construction over the Buckingham Canal had tilted or developed structural problems.

ADCL officials said the bridge construction was progressing in accordance with engineering and safety standards and that there were no defects in the structure.

The corporation explained that in large steel bridge projects involving extra-long girders, components are manufactured and joined using specialised engineering techniques. During installation, the girders are placed on bearings with millimetre-level precision to ensure proper alignment.

The ADCL stated that if girders do not initially settle in a straight line, engineers routinely detach and realign joints as part of standard technical procedures. It clarified that such adjustments are common in steel bridge construction and should not be construed as structural failure or damage.

Officials further said there was no requirement to remove any structural components from the bridge and that only minor engineering corrections had been carried out during girder alignment in line with prescribed standards.

The corporation said the steel bridge over the Buckingham Canal was being constructed using modern technology with priority given to quality and safety parameters. It added that the project continued to adhere to safety norms at every stage of construction.
