Vijayawada: Turning the tables on coalition government, former chief minister and YSRC president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy said the liquor scam was a sham in which charges are fabricated only to nullify and weaken the liquor case in which Chandrababu Naidu is on bail. June 4 will be observed as Betrayal Day to expose the failures of the government, he said.

Addressing the media at a press meet here on Thursday, Jagan Mohan Reddy said the government has been harassing the arrested officials in a vindictive manner. They are taking statements and confessions despite documentary evidence on the liquor scam case against Chandrababu Naidu. They are violating every norm of the bail.
He further said the arrest of small-time employees and people who have no role with the Beverages Corporation affairs only shows that the government wants to weaken and nullify the case registered against Chandrababu Naidu.
Jagan Mohan Reddy claimed that Vijayasai Reddy had completely surrendered to Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu and took crucial decisions solely to benefit the coalition. He stated, “What value do statements from people like Vijayasai Reddy hold? He is just another individual who has surrendered to Chandrababu. Although Vijayasai Reddy still had three and a half years left in his Rajya Sabha term, he resigned only to serve the interests of Chandrababu Naidu. Knowing that his resignation would benefit Chandrababu’s coalition, he succumbed to inducements and sold out his remaining three and a half years of tenure to that coalition.”
Jagan Mohan Reddy said, “Chandrababu Naidu and his friendly media have been spreading lies on state finances during our term but the CAG and other reports are in the open, which clearly speak the truth that we managed the finances better and purchasing power and growth rate were better during our term.”
He further stated that Naidu has been going for heavy borrowings and pouring all the money into Amaravati, with escalated costs and inflated tenders to benefit his own contractors.
Alleging that corruption has been rampant with PPAs being signed at Rs 4.60 per unit for 25 years, Jagan Mohan Reddy said the scam runs into Rs 11,000 crore. He said an unconstitutional method was adopted in issuing NMDC bonds to raise Rs 9,000 crore by allowing private parties to have access to the Consolidated Fund. Jagan Mohan Reddy added that there was an undeclared emergency rule prevailing in the state
