No Proof of ‘Love Jihad’ Allegations in AP, DGP Clarifies
The DGP responded to queries into the allegations raised by Rajya Sabha member Vijaya Sai Reddy.
Kakinada: Andhra Pradesh director general of police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta said there is no evidence to support allegations of “Love Jihad” in the state. “Investigations so far have not established any such claims,” he clarified.
The DGP responded to queries into the allegations raised by Rajya Sabha member Vijaya Sai Reddy. He earlier inaugurated the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory at Rajamahendravaram on Saturday.
Allegations of “Love Jihad” had recently surfaced in Kakinada district, one involving Sadiq Khan and another wherein a Muslim man has been accused of marrying six Hindu women and converting them to Islam.
The DGP, along with AFSL director P.H.D. Ramakrishna, Eluru Range inspector general G.V.G. Ashok Kumar, and East Godavari district SP D. Narasimha Kishore, later told media that the department is closely monitoring the investigation into the death of Dr. Priyanka at Rajamahendravaram and the suicide of a three-member family of assistant engineer T. Nookaraju.
Harish Kumar Gupta said efforts are being made to expedite the investigations, present the cases before a special court, and secure convictions of the accused.
The DGP described the Rajamahendravaram incident involving Dr. Priyanka as deeply tragic. He said doubts raised by her family would be addressed and explained to them privately. He declined to disclose whether the accused had consumed ganja or alcohol, stating that the information formed part of the ongoing investigation and premature disclosure could affect the case.
Speaking about the Godavari Pushkaralu – 2027, Harish Kumar Gupta said police will adopt artificial intelligence-based systems and drones to assess crowd volumes, movement, and flow patterns at different ghats and other critical locations. He made it clear that crowds will be regulated to prevent excessive gathering at a single location.
The DGP disclosed that the system had successfully been piloted during the Dasara security arrangements last year and would be expanded further. Unlike the earlier arrangement under which around 2,000 CCTV cameras had been primarily used for live observation, the new system will incorporate recording capabilities, allowing footage to be reviewed when required.
Harish Kumar Gupta revealed that police plan to replicate the compartment-based crowd management model used at Tirumala, where authorities monitor crowd density and movement in individual compartments, and use the data to anticipate and regulate the crowd flows.
Those present include superintendents of police Rahul Meena (Konaseema), K. Prathap Shiva Kishore (Eluru), Adnan Nayeem Asmi (West Godavari), Amit Bardar (Polavaram), Manda Javali (OSD, Polavaram), and Rajamahendravaram municipal commissioner Rahul Meena.
