KAKINADA: Union Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to visit her adopted village of Peda Mynavani (PM) Lanka in Narasapuram mandal of West Godavari District on Sunday.

As per her detailed programme released here on Saturday, Nirmala Sitharaman will arrive by road from Vijayawada to participate in the Mann-Ki-Baat programme organised in the area. Thereafter, she will inaugurate a training camp on drones, an AI programme and sign MoUs with Game Hub and Game Foundation.

The union minister will distribute livelihood checks to self-help groups (SHGs) through Union of Bank of India, NABARD and State Bank of India. She will present prizes to winners of students who participated in drawing competitions on the Vande Mataram theme. She will then inspect the Gabion Wall construction works undertaken by Deloitte. She will thereafter visit a temple at Kavitam village.

West Godavari district collector Chadalawada Nagarani said the adoption of PM Lanka village by Nirmala Sitharaman has led to major development of the village. Government schemes and programmes taken up with corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds are playing a crucial role in transforming the village into a model village.

Nagarani praised banks that provided financial assistance worth ₹50 lakh to improve the livelihoods of poor fishermen by providing boats, fishing nets, three-wheelers and mopeds with ice boxes, apart from infrastructure facilities at ZP High School, including a science lab, computers and a public address system.

The collector said one of the banks is conducting training programmes on lace making, sewing skills and Juki Machine operation and maintenance, aimed at empowerment of women in the village. She said a project to construct a 1,000-meter-long embankment to prevent coastal erosion at PM Lanka is being implemented at a cost of ₹13.72 crore. She said already 55 per cent of work has been completed. The work is progressing rapidly and will be completed by the end of January 2026.
