VIJAYAWADA: Continuing the Telugu Desam-led “No Vehicle Day” initiative for a second consecutive week, minister Nimmala Ramanaidu travelled by bicycle and train on Friday, promoting fuel conservation and simple living in line with the call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
The minister left his residence in Palakollu early in the morning without any official convoy or fanfare and cycled to the railway station. He purchased his own ticket and travelled in the general compartment like an ordinary passenger, interacting with commuters and enquiring about their welfare. During the journey, he also shared breakfast offered by a fellow passenger and spent time chatting informally with travellers.
After reaching Ramavarappadu railway station in Vijayawada, Ramanaidu cycled nearly 18 km to the Telugu Desam central office in Mangalagiri.
In a symbolic gesture, TD state president Palla Srinivasa Rao stepped out of his vehicle after spotting the minister cycling near Kolanukonda on the highway and joined him on the same bicycle. The two leaders travelled together for around five kilometres before reaching the party headquarters.
Speaking on the occasion, Ramanaidu urged people to adopt fuel-saving practices and said leaders must set an example for the public and youth to follow. He said controlling unnecessary expenditure and promoting savings could help tackle inflation. The minister also criticised YSR Congress leaders for allegedly ridiculing Prime Minister Modi’s call for fuel conservation.
Srinivasa Rao praised the minister for continuing the initiative for a second straight week and called upon youth and party workers to emulate his example.
