Hyderabad: The National Human Right Commission (NHRC) has called upon the Andhra Pradesh Director-General of Police to inform it about the progress of investigation into the custodial death of Gade Sai Krishna (26) and also about the tracing and recovery of the mortal remains of the deceased.

The Commission would like to monitor, without interfering with the progress of the investigation by SIT, so that the justice is rendered. The progress of investigation shall be informed to this Commission in four weeks time.

In response to the Commission’s notice, the AP DGP has submitted an Action Taken Report, which confirmeds that based on a complaint by the victim’s mother Gade Vijayalakshmi, a FIR No. 107/2026 was registered at Krishnalanka police station on June 19, 2026 under Sections 127(4), 127(6), 103(1), and 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, with further sections including 61(2), 3(5) & 305 of BNS, 2023 and Section 3 of the PDPP Act, 1984, being added later.

The investigation reveals that the deceased was apprehended on May 6, 2026 but was never produced before a Magistrate, in clear violation of constitutional and statutory safeguards.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT was constituted by the Andhra Pradesh government to ensure an impartial investigation. The prime accused, Inspector S.S.V.V. Nagaraju (A-1), along with Head Constables P. Ashok Kumar (A-2), Jungam Nani (A-3), Goriparthi Sambaiah (A-6), and Police Constable Kaitepalli Babu Rao (A-5), have been arrested and placed under suspension.

The investigation has prima facie established a criminal conspiracy involving the illegal detention, torture, and disappearance of the victim. Most alarmingly, the investigation has confirmed that the CCTV system at the police station was deliberately tampered with and the original hard disk drives containing footage for the relevant period were clandestinely removed and substituted to destroy electronic evidence.

A magisterial enquiry has also been initiated by the District Magistrate, NTR District. The SIT is actively investigating to trace the mortal remains of the victim and to apprehend the remaining accused. The report of the AP DGP shows prima-facie that the investigation by the SIT is on track.

However, it appears that the mortal remains of the deceased Sai Krishna are yet to be traced and recovered. This plays a vital role in nixing the accused.
