Nellore Gearing Up For CM Naidu’s Thummalapenta Visit
District collector Himanshu Shukla, along with Kavali MLA Dagumati Venkata Krishna Reddy, inspected the venue on Thursday: Reports
NELLORE: Nellore district administration is gearing up for Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s scheduled visit to Thummalapenta village in Kavali mandal on May 19 for his “Matsyakarula Sevalo” programme aimed at supporting fishermen.
District collector Himanshu Shukla, along with Kavali MLA Dagumati Venkata Krishna Reddy, inspected the venue on Thursday. At a review meeting, he directed officials from all departments to work in close coordination to make the Chief Minister’s tour a grand success. He instructed departments to expedite arrangements related to the helipad, public meeting venue, parking, convoy movement, security, drinking water, sanitation, and seating facilities.
At the Matsyakarula Sevalo programme, the CM is expected to directly transfer financial assistance into the bank accounts of fishermen
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Krishna Reddy described the Chief Minister’s visit as a “festival day” for fishermen in the region. He said the local fishing families are eagerly awaiting Chandrababu Naidu’s visit, seeing it as recognition of their hard work and risky livelihood at sea.
Chandrababu Naidu’s visit has stirred memories of then Chief Minister N. T. Rama Rao visiting the Thummalapenta village in 1987, when several welfare initiatives for fishermen had been launched. Villagers recalled that NTR had sanctioned houses, fishing nets, and boats for local fishermen. They also recalled that CM Chandrababu Naidu had visited Thummalapenta during the 2004 tsunami to console the affected families.
Officials from the fisheries, police, revenue, rural water supply, electricity, and panchayat departments participated in the review meeting.
