NCC, Naval Units Ready to Train Cadets in Civil Defence
Units await formal orders to begin emergency response drills and awareness programmes
Nellore: In response to rising tensions with Pakistan, India has initiated civil defence mock drills across multiple states to bolster emergency preparedness. In line with this national effort, the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and Naval Units in Nellore are also ready to train their cadets in civil defence preparedness.
The training programmes will commence once formal directives are issued by their respective headquarters. The objective is to equip young cadets with the skills needed to respond effectively during a crisis.
There are around 600 college students under the “2 Andhra EME, NCC Unit” and 2,400 students under the “10 Andhra Naval NCC Unit” in Nellore district. These cadets are expected to undergo special training sessions focused on emergency response protocols, siren awareness, and civilian protection strategies.
Lt. Colonel N. Dinesh, Officer Commanding of the EME NCC Unit, said, “We are fully prepared to commence training as soon as orders are issued.
The objective is to educate cadets on how to respond to various emergency situations without creating panic. The emphasis will be on safeguarding civilians and raising awareness among the public.”
He also mentioned that the NCC will work closely with the civil administration, police, and line departments to implement the training effectively. “We plan to extend civil defence awareness programmes to NGOs and other social groups as part of a broader community outreach effort,” Lt. Col. Dinesh added.
Meanwhile, Lt. Commander Ganesh of the 10 Andhra Naval NCC Unit stated that they are currently conducting annual training camps for cadets, and they are yet to receive any official communication regarding civil defence training. However, he confirmed that the unit is ready to mobilise resources as soon as directions are received.
