Tirupati:Naravaripalle, the native village of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, wore a festive look on Tuesday as pre-Sankranti celebrations were held with active participation from villagers alongside the Chief Minister and his family.
Naidu was joined in the celebrations by his wife Bhuvaneswari, minister Nara Lokesh, his wife Nara Brahmani, MP Bharath and his wife Tejaswini, all of them adding to the festive mood.
The celebrations featured a mix of traditional and recreational activities in tune with the Sankranti spirit. Children took part in games such as balloon bursting, musical chairs, gunny bag races, three-leg races, glass and balloon runs, and lemon-and-spoon races.
The events drew good participation. Naidu’s grandson, Nara Devansh, joined the children in the games, and found himself to be a centre of attraction.
Women from the village added a cultural touch by rendering folk songs associated with Bhogi and Sankranti. The CM, along with family members and other guests, watched the programmes, encouraged the participants and later distributed prizes to the winners. They took group photos with villagers.
A rangoli competition added colour to the celebrations, with villagers displaying intricate designs. Naidu and his wife, Bhuvaneswari, went around viewing the rangolis and appreciated the creativity of the participants. Cash rewards were announced for all participants, and prizes were presented to the winners of both sports and rangoli competitions.
The presence of the CM and his family raised the enthusiasm among the villagers, with a festive atmosphere prevailing there throughout the day. Naidu also received petitions from people who came there from different places and assured them that steps would be taken to address their grievances.
District collector Venkateswar, SP Subba Rayudu, public representatives and party workers were present.
Arrangements have been made for the holding of Bhogi Mantalu early on Wednesday, in which the CM and others would participate.
