VIJAYAWADA: Union minister of state Dr Pemmasani Chandrasekhar said Guntur was witnessing large-scale development through Centre-State coordination, with railway overbridges worth nearly ₹700 crore being taken up in the parliamentary constituency with Central funds.

Campaigning on Tuesday in Divisions 41 and 43 of Guntur West for NDA-backed mayoral candidate Kovelamudi Lakshmi Aparna and corporator candidates Rangavajjula Gayatri and Behara Gayatri, along with MLA Galla Madhavi, he appealed to voters to support the alliance candidates.

The Nandivelugu railway overbridge, whose construction was stalled for five years due to the non-release of State funds, was nearing completion and would be ready for inauguration by the end of November, he said.

The Centre had sanctioned ₹100 crore for the Shankar Vilas overbridge, while the municipal corporation had earmarked ₹50 crore for land acquisition. The ₹150-crore project was targeted for completion by August next year. Overbridges costing ₹150 crore at Gaddipadu and ₹70 crore at Pedapalakaluru were also being taken up. Tenders for the Syamala Nagar overbridge would be expedited within six months, he added.

The Centre had extended around ₹15,000 crore for Amaravati's development and was funding national highway projects and the modernisation of Guntur railway station, Pemmasani said.

Highlighting India's manufacturing growth, he said the number of mobile phone manufacturing units had increased from two in 2014 to more than 300, with domestic production meeting local demand and supporting exports.

Roads and drainage remained priorities, and civic problems would be resolved in phases, he said. He urged voters to elect Lakshmi Aparna and the NDA-backed corporator candidates to facilitate further development in Guntur.
