Naidu Vows To Clear 100% Waste From Urban Centres By June

Naidu said he wants to ensure processing of 100 per cent garbage collected from the present 57 per cent.

Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has vowed to ensure cent per cent clearance of waste from all urban areas in the state by June 2026.

Addressing a gathering during his “‘Swarna Andhra – Swachh Andhra” programme at Nidadavole in East Godavari on Saturday, the AP CM insisted on cleanliness throughout the state, beginning from home, school, college, or office to streets, public places, temples, parks, beaches, villages and cities, temples, parks and so on.
Naidu referred to roads in Japan without even a single piece of paper. However, in AP, they are clearing 7,527 tonnes of garbage in urban areas and 1,430 tonnes in rural areas of the state per day.
The Chief Minister said as part of the cleanliness efforts, garbage collection door-to-door has gone up to 97 per cent from 86 per cent. He expressed his determination to make this 100 per cent by launching electric garbage collecting vehicles.
Naidu said he wants to ensure processing of 100 per cent garbage collected from the present 57 per cent. For this, the state government will set up 107 modern garbage processing units at a cost of ₹603 crore. He expressed confidence that these units will become operational by October.
The CM recalled 153 lakh metric tonnes of garbage piled up in mounds throughout the state when his government assumed power in 2024. He said so far, they have cleared 114 lakh metric tonnes of the pile left by the previous YSRC government. He sounded confident of the remaining garbage being cleared by June 2026.
Naidu disclosed that 633 Swachh Rathas are collecting 125 tonnes of dry waste per day. He assured efforts to ensure that all villages in the state are declared as ODF (open defecation free) plus by September 2026. He pointed out that 12,371 villages have become ODF plus so far. He underlined that every house must have a toilet. He went on to advise people to use their domestic garbage in their kitchen gardens.
The Chief Minister said they have targeted to develop 7.14 lakh kitchen gardens, one lakh soak pits, 8,000 community soak pits, and 100 km distance magic drains. He pointed out that they have deployed 71 sweeping machines in 13 cities. Tenders have been called for 14 more such machines.
Naidu said six waste-to-energy projects will be coming up by 2028. The green cover in the state will go up to 50 per cent by 2047 from the present 31.33 per cent.
On the occasion, the AP CM announced several sops for the development of Nidadavole Assembly constituency.
