Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, embarrassed by a sudden unleashing of terror by TD 'goons' against senior opposition leaders, has stressed that rule of law must prevail in the state.

“Political disagreements could be expressed through democratic and constitutional means,” Naidu said while addressing the party’s leaders through a teleconference on Monday.

He said, “Maintenance of law and order is paramount. No violation will be tolerated irrespective of political affiliations.“

Naidu took note of the violent protests outside the residence of YSRC leader and former minister Jogi Ramesh, following which the Ibrahimpatnam police registered a suo motu case. The police booked several TD leaders from the Mylavaram Assembly segment in relation to the incident.

Referring to the provocative statements made by the YSRC leaders, the CM appealed to the TD leaders and cadre to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could disturb public peace.

He said, “Any attempt to disrupt law and order will invite strict action. There will be zero tolerance to law and order violations in the state.”

The CM directed the police to act impartially and firmly to ensure peace and security for all citizens and urged the political parties to act responsibly and uphold democratic values. Public order and citizens’ safety, he said, would remain the top priority of the government.

In a statement earlier, he said, “The criminalisation of politics has been the core culture of the YSRC. We established the rule of law in 2024. Our culture is empowerment and service to the people. Even while in opposition, they are resorting to abuse, out of desperation.”

They, he said, are unhappy and frustrated to see everything they once destroyed is being rebuilt. “However, the law is supreme and we must uphold the law and order we have established. We will not allow anyone to violate the rule of law in the state.”
