Naidu Highlights Electronics Components Policy To Attract $100 Billion to AP

Vijayawada: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has spoken about an action plan to attract $100 billion dollars in the electronics sector.


Chairing a review meeting on the newly formulated ‘electronics components manufacturing policy 4.0’ with the senior officials here on Monday, he said there was huge potential for setting up units for manufacturing electronic gadgets in the Sri City, Hindupur and Kopparthi in Rayalaseema region.

He called upon the officials to try and attract huge investments in the electronics sector with emphasis on these places.
Naidu discussed the policy in detail, with stress on attracting huge investments in the next five years, so as to give a major fillip to the electronics industry in AP.

The officials informed the CM that the new policy was formulated to reduce imports, enhance indigenous production and target more export of electronic items.

The officials informed the CM that electronic circuit boards worth $70 billion dollars were imported to India last year and there was a huge demand in the sector. In response, the CM told them to fulfill the targets of self-reliance and Made-in-India vis-a-vis production of electronic items.

Naidu proposed an action plan to manufacture electronic items in a big way in AP even to meet demand from the international market.

He also laid stress to create the brand image for the electronic items being manufactured in AP and called for expanding the ambit of the policy in the manufacture of electronic components.

Referring to the issue of land availability in metros like Bengaluru and Chennai, the CM asked the officials to explore the opportunity to attract industries dealing with manufacturing of electronic components to set up their units in Sri City near Tirupati, Orvakal near Kurnool, Kopparthi and Hindupur.

As part of the state government’s commitment to promote an entrepreneur for every house in the state, Naidu called upon the officials to draw the attention of entrepreneurs to set up industrial units in the electronics sector.

As for setting up IT companies, Naidu said cities like Visakhapatnam, Amaravati and Tirupati were having huge potential and a presence of 500 IT companies in the region would have huge job potential mainly for the youths.
He suggested setting up co-working spaces and called for efforts to enhance job potential in other cities and towns in the state apart from Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada.

The chief minister directed the officials to integrate the skill development portal with other portals to enhance skill. He laid stress on imparting suitable skills to the youth for future needs and called for addicting new lessons in the education sector so that students could explore new job avenues at both national and international levels.

He wanted AP to be the number-one in knowledge economy.
