Kuppam: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday underlined his government’s priority to balance welfare schemes with economic development, ensuring that every section of the society benefited.

Speaking in Kuppam at a series of programmes organised to celebrate the arrival of Krishna waters into the region, he said Kuppam had once been known for drought and lack of opportunities.

“It is now witnessing major changes. Water has arrived. 12 industries have come up with investments worth Rs 3,908 crore, providing direct jobs to 15,600 people and indirect opportunities to more than 26,500 persons,” the CM underlined.

He disclosed that Hindalco is setting up a unit to manufacture iPhone chassis in Kuppam, which would put the place on the global technology map. Road connectivity projects linking the constituency to neighbouring states are in progress, he said.

Naidu travelled in a “Sthree Shakti” bus listening to the experiences of women beneficiaries of the free bus travel scheme. Women passengers told him that the initiative has removed financial barriers in their mobility. Women farmers expressed happiness over the arrival of Krishna waters through the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi project.

The Chief Minister sought to address the concerns of auto drivers, who feared losing business due to the free travel scheme. He assured support, so that no one’s livelihood is affected. He referred to the ongoing teacher recruitment drive, under which 50 posts have been allotted to Kuppam alone. “Local youth becoming teachers is a matter of pride. It shows a turnaround in Kuppam’s growth,” he stated.

Officials organised a photo exhibition near the Kuppam branch canal, explaining to the CM the journey of Krishna waters from the Malyala lift to Kuppam. Naidu instructed officials to install CCTV cameras at reservoirs and canals to livestream flow of water to the public. He said transparency and awareness will help future generations understand the importance of resource management.
