Actor Sivaji recently found himself at the centre of controversy after making remarks about how women and actresses should dress during a pre-release event. His comments, which many perceived as disrespectful, judgmental, and bordering on moral policing, triggered widespread backlash on social media. Several women’s groups and members of the film fraternity criticised the statements, calling them inappropriate and harmful.

Reacting strongly to Sivaji’s remarks, Mega brother Nagababu made it clear that a woman’s choice of clothing is entirely personal and that no one has the right to dictate how she should dress. He described moral policing as unconstitutional and said such views stem from male ego and outdated thinking. Nagababu stressed that society must stop supporting individuals who shame or abuse women in the name of culture.

He further pointed out that crimes against women have no connection to the clothes they wear, but are solely the result of the mindset of offenders. In a candid admission, Nagababu revealed that he himself once held similar views but evolved, urging society to give women the freedom to live with equality and dignity.

Actress and anchor Anasuya Bharadwaj extended strong support to Nagababu by sharing his video on social media, stating that he has always stood by women. However, the discussion soon took an ugly turn online. After Anasuya shared pictures of herself wearing a saree, some users mocked her and accused her of being inconsistent. When she later posted a swim shoot video, the trolling intensified, with critics questioning her intent, while many others defended her right to choose how she presents herself.

Responding to the growing negativity, Anasuya issued a strongly worded statement on Instagram. “I want to put this out clearly, once and for all. Some vultures, a few irresponsible media houses, and a few civic illiterates armed with smartphones and microphones have deliberately twisted my words and created manipulative narratives to suit their convenience. These narratives were designed to provoke, confuse, and mislead simple men and women alike,” she wrote.
