Kurnool: In a shocking incident, MRPS state working president Ramesh was mowed down by a tractor driven by miscreants at Bondimadugula village in the Pattikonda Assembly constituency of Kurnool district on Friday evening.

According to sources, Ramesh was out for a walk when some miscreants deliberately rammed a tractor into him. He sustained severe injuries and was rushed by locals to a private hospital, where he succumbed on Saturday morning.

Following the incident, Dalit organisations staged a protest in front of the Kurnool collectorate, demanding strict action against those responsible. Pattikonda police said a case was registered and an investigation was under way.

The Sompeta Sub Court sentenced a truck driver to three years of rigorous imprisonment for attempting to run over police personnel while transporting illegal ganja.

Sub-Court Judge J. Srinivasa Rao found the accused, Subhash Bagal, guilty and imposed a fine of ₹1,000.

The incident occurred in the early hours of March 2, 2024, during vehicle checks on NH-16 near Nemali Narayanapuram village in Srikakulam district. Acting on instructions from the Task Force inspector, Goru Prabhakar Rao, police tried to stop a container lorry. However, the driver allegedly drove the vehicle at high speed directly towards the police officers in an attempt to kill them and fled.

The case was registered by the then Kasibugga SI P. Parinaidu under Sections 307 and 332 of the IPC.

Agri motor theft gang held in Anakapalli

Anakapalli police arrested three persons for stealing submersible motors from agricultural fields across several villages in Kasimkota mandal and recovered eight motors and other stolen property worth several lakh rupees from them.

A special police team led by circle inspector A. Swamy Naidu nabbed the suspects during a vehicle check on the outskirts of Gokivanipalem village. The accused were identified as Killada Ganga Ramana, 26, Karri Sai Kumar, 21, and Vaiboyina Janaki Ram, 22.

During interrogation, the trio led police to a spot near Mallam village in Buchayyapeta mandal, where the stolen items had been concealed. Police said the accused confessed to stealing electric motors from agricultural fields in Gokivanipalem, AS Peta, Addam, Mosayyapet and Achcherla villages in Kasimkota mandal of Anakapalli district.
