MPs Want Gollapudi As Satellite To Decongest Vijayawada Railway Station
During the meeting, the MPs made key proposals to ease congestion, improve safety and support growth with an integrated road-rail transport plan for NTR district, owing to the continuously rising rail traffic density, particularly at the Vijayawada railway station.
VIJAYAWADA: Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath, along with Rajahmundry MP Daggubati Purandeswari, AP BJP president, met union Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at the Parliament House in New Delhi on Thursday.
During the meeting, the MPs made key proposals to ease congestion, improve safety and support growth with an integrated road-rail transport plan for NTR district, owing to the continuously rising rail traffic density, particularly at the Vijayawada railway station.
A major proposal is a satellite railway station in the bulb line area at Gollapudi in order to reduce pressure on main Vijayawada station. MP Sivanath pointed out that the proposed site is vacant, with strategic proximity to major roads leading to the Vijayawada International Airport and the upcoming new railway line to AP capital Amaravati.
The proposed satellite station, the Lok Sabha member said, would significantly decongest Vijayawada station and improve connectivity with the new Amaravati railway line and outer ring roads. He requested the Railway ministry to conduct a joint inspection with the concerned departments, so that a detailed project report (DPR) could be prepared in this regard.
Sivanath referred to the persistent waterlogging along the Kondapalli-Vijayawada railway track. Accumulation of sewage and rainwater has been weakening embankments. This is delaying movement of trains. Terming the route a vital freight corridor, the MP stressed on a comprehensive solution involving the Railway, Municipal and Irrigation departments.
According to the MP, Ashwini Vaishnaw responded positively to the proposals.
Those who accompanied the Lok Sabha members included BJP Mylavaram constituency in-charge Nuthalapati Balakoteswara Rao and Jana Sena Mylavaram in-charge Akkala Rammohan Rao (Gandhi).
