Vijayawada: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday called upon state governments to especially focus on effective implementation of the PM-SHRI (Prime Minister Schools for Rising India) scheme, asserting that this will play a decisive role in elevating educational standards across the country.

Addressing the 50th PRAGATI video conference with chief secretaries of various states, Narendra Modi pointed out that PM-SHRI’s core objective is to modernise government schools and transform them into model institutions in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020.
The Prime Minister underlined that PM-SHRI will bring about revolutionary changes in primary education by ensuring robust infrastructure and high-quality learning environments. He noted that the centre would bear 60 per cent of the project cost, while the remaining 40 per cent would be met by the states, enabling comprehensive development of select government schools across India.
Narendra Modi said students from both rural and urban areas would benefit from improved infrastructure, digital education and modern learning tools. He underlined that nurturing creativity, skills and holistic development among students forms a key pillar of NEP-2020 implementation.
Highlighting the vision of the programme, the PM said digital and green schools would be developed with smart classrooms, digital and science laboratories, upgraded libraries, sports facilities, arts education, and vocational training. Eco-friendly initiatives, such as solar power usage and water conservation will be integrated, ensuring sustainability alongside academic excellence. He observed that the scheme will significantly contribute to building future-ready skills among students.
Speaking at the conference, AP chief secretary K. Vijayanand informed the Prime Minister that 935 schools have been selected under the PM-SHRI scheme in Andhra Pradesh. He said these schools are being comprehensively developed to deliver quality education supported by digital technology.
The CS assured that state government is taking all necessary measures to ensure successful implementation of the PM-SHRI scheme in Andhra Pradesh.
