Visakhapatnam: Moderate rains lashed parts of Visakhapatnam and other areas in the district on Monday evening, causing waterlogging in low-lying areas.

According to the Cyclone Warning Centre, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli received the highest rainfall of 5 cm, followed by the Airport and Pendurthi with 4 cm each, Gajuwaka 3 cm and Vizianagaram 1.5 cm.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Amaravati, said an upper-air cyclonic circulation lay over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal between 3.1 km and 4.5 km above mean sea level. A trough extended from North Interior Karnataka to Tamil Nadu across South Interior Karnataka at 0.9 km above mean sea level.

Under its influence, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely at isolated places over Rayalaseema on Tuesday and Wednesday, the IMD said. Strong winds with speeds of 30-40 kmph, gusting to 50 kmph, are also likely at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema.
